An old breed at last recognised by the Kennel Club, this is a working terrier built to go to ground and run to hounds. They should be bold, friendly and a bit naughty with other dogs! Very lively and needs an active life. The coat can be rough or smooth, always harsh and close. The tail is still docked.
Colours are white or white with tan, lemon or black markings which should be confined to the head and root of the tail.
