Though arround in Sweden for centuries the Swedish Lapphund was only recognised officially in 1944. He is of medium size a spitz type with the full coat errect ears and high tail carriage. In shows the tail may be natural docked. This is an alert breed and works sheep but makes a wonderful companion too. The coat is thick, stiff and long except on the head, muzzle and front of the legs, where it is short
Colours are dark chestnut, black, chestnut and white. White on the chest, feet and neck are also accepted.
