New breed standard says they are a "Sagacious lively hound possessing an excellent nose and deep and sonorous voice --- Audacious, curious and affectionate but somewhat reserved -- ears should be below the eye line, curled in and extending to at least the tip of the nose when drawn forward. -- The chest should reach below the elbow with a prominent sternum. Back is long -- loin short and strong with a slight arch. " - The coat is smooth, short and dense and "not too fine"
Colour is Tri, On a white base, covered entirely with black mottling which gives the 'blue' appearance. Two black marks are found on the head covering each ear, eveloping the eyes and stopping at the cheeks. Tan marks are found above the eyes, on the cheeks, flews, inside the ears, on the legs and under the tail. These marks can be mottled too, but tan must exist.
There is an Interim breed standard issued 13th July 1999 by the Kennel Club.
