A large massive breed giving the impression of benevolence, dignity and intelligence. This dog takes up a lot of space and a lot of feeding, he is economical in exercise but does need to be kept muscled. The head is a feature of the breed. Coat can be rough, which is dense and flat, rather full about the neck & thighs well feathered, or smooth - close and hound-like.
Colours are orange, mahogany-brindle, red-brindle or white with patches of those colours and specific markings.
