Some of this discription comes from the Beauceron Club of America site.
A French sheep dog whose history goes back to the 1500's, the Beauceron originated in an area near Paris known as La Beauce. He needs firm handling as he is bred to take the initiative. ---- Like other breeds in the herding group, the Beauceron is very versatile and easy to train for a variety of tasks besides herding. Beaucerons also serve as military dogs, police dogs, assistance dogs, therapy dogs as well as family companions and protectors. A large dog with a rustic look he is powerful but has an effortless movement and fearless manner. --- Their principle qualities are obedience, vigilance, calmness, courage, hardiness and patience. -- They are sociable with dogs they know, but they are territorial and intolerant of intruders onto their premises There are double dew claws on the hind legs. In Britain the ears may not be cropped and hand pendant. The coat is harsh.
Colours are black and tan or harlequin.
Thanks for the help to Beauceron Club of America and Ron and Debbie Skinner for letting me 'rob' their pictures!
